Anthony Fairlamb is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator currently living in Nottingham. He graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2002 with a BA in Graphic design, specialising in photo manipulation and computer generated artwork. Since leaving university Anthony primarily creates artwork for bands and nightclubs; designing flyers, posters,t-shirts and cd wallets amongst other, more specialist items.
The pieces for this exhibition were originally produced using a combination of acrylics, watercolours, oil paints and oil pastels. After the initial creation process Anthony often likes to alter the images further using a series of digital techniques, allowing him to incorporate his more technical design skills into his chaotic first hand works. Choosing to name the pieces using active verbs he hopes to give the observer a sense of presence, immediacy and connection with the action of viewing. The abstract nature of the pieces and their names is intended to allow the viewer to draw their own interpretations and conclusions from what they see, creating a more personal piece that appears different to every observer. Anthony draws inspiration from a large variety of sources not least of all music. Creating a sense of atmosphere and mood instead of a particular scene is often linked with his desire to produce something that people can become immersed and personally involved in, such as they would with a favourite piece of music.
